Shoo-Bee-Doo-Beee-Doo-Beee-DANCE!

Doris, M and I met up in Newark's Prudential Center to see the Season 4 So You Think You Can Dance Tour. It our first time at the brand spanking new and brightly lit Prudential Center. I am sure it is visible from space. M, "The employees are so nice!" It is true, they were friendly, helpful, entertaining and wore red coats with tails! Fancy!

I was worried about food but there was plenty of options there - we got hockey game staples like chicken tenders and fries and hot dogs with sauerkraut. A perfect concert meal.

It's weird not to have the judges. The dancers had to hold the show on their own - dance, introduce dances and have weird little comic relief skits that included cross dressing. They showed all the good-bye montages which always make me teary. Mark was mesmerizing in his kookiness. Courtney was incredibly athletic and I thought, better than when she was on the show. Katie and Josh had the best routines and were incredible. That man can jump! It was great to see Comfort and Gev's solo was really awesome. I loved the Bollywood routine and anything Mia Michaels choreographed. Even their sponsor Snuggle bear came out and danced.

Retail Therapy: Journelle

This gorgeous store made me stop as I walked back from dinner at Soccarat. I love fancy lingerie and had made a mental note to check it out later.

Then, this week's Wellesley Club NY newsletter announced a special Wellesley shopping event at Journelle which was founded by Claire ('02). It has a fantastic website with lots of stuff to make you drool - or your significant other drool. Fabulous!

More Work for Civil Rights

Our friends C & C married this year in California.

Over 50 years after the African-American Civil Rights movement in the U.S., we have elected our first African-American president.

However, this election illuminated the bigotry and hatred that still cripples this country and the civil rights waves roll on. Women gained the right to vote in 1920 and continue to fight for the right to control their destiny. Efforts to restrict abortion were rejected in South Dakota, California and Colorado. And "among the more unusual measures on this year’s ballots was one in Florida that would repeal an old clause in the state constitution that allows legislators to bar Asian immigrants from owning land. The repeal would be symbolic, as equal protection laws would prevent lawmakers from applying the ban. With 78 percent of precincts reporting just before 11 p.m. Tuesday, the vote was close, with 52 percent voting to preserve the clause." Seriously?

California, Arizona and Florida voted to ban same-sex marriage. Arkansas passed a measure that essentially banned gays and lesbians from adopting. More than 40 states now have constitutional bans or laws against same-sex marriages. Our new president opposes same-sex marriage.

I am woman. I am the daughter of Asian immigrants. I am in an incredible relationship with another Asian women whom I love and want to protect for the rest of our lives. This is outrageous and we need to continue to expand, to engage and build.

Little Monkey

Adorable! Can't wait to meet you over the holidays!

President Barack Hussein Obama

Our 44th president and first family.

This has been a historic election. Having a woman as Vice President or President is a stronger possibility and not such a foreign idea in Americans' minds. Having a man whose father was from Kenya and raised as a Muslim and who later became atheist and Kenya's senior government economist happened. Having a feisty, powerful and strong black first lady who grew up on the South Side of Chicago and graduated from Princeton University and Harvard Law School is here. And two beautiful little first daughters!

This is a man who grew up working hard and ran on integrity, hope and change. He found and surrounded himself with an incredible team of brilliant and powerful people who tapped into the world that we are now and harnessed the power of the Internet. He is a man who built coalition, who brought people together. This is a man who often said the taboo words of gay, lesbian, equality.

This is bittersweet for me. I am so unbelievably overwhelmed and proud of his achievement. I am also anxious about the next few years ahead. I believe that he will be a strong leader who will bring America back into the global community and mend the wreckage of the past 8 years. He is a man who respects women and their rights. However, much damage has been done. Can anyone unravel the past 8 years (and possibly further)? Can anyone bring us out of this economic morass? Can anyone do the right thing for Guantanamo, Iraq, Afghanistan, Iran, etc? We have so overloaded our future, our children with debt - can this be corrected?

I'm not sure but I am so glad that he has stepped up to the challenge and will thoughtfully, methodically, work with the right people to make things better.

November is Jaw Joints-TMJ Awareness Month

I left the dentist this morning with the confirmation that I have TMJ. I've faithfully worn my mouthguard every night for over 2 years and still, I have headaches, injury to my tongue and palate from clenching, pain and sensitivity in my molars and my jaw pops out when I yawn. The dentist checked my x-rays (which are so cool - they are digital and popped right up on the computer!) and saw damage to my teeth, gums and ligaments. My boss says my face looks swollen. Great.

Who knew that including Women's, Asian and LGBT month, I also have TMJ month! "September 30, 1997 Massachusetts Congressman Barney Frank designated November as Jaw Joints-TMJ Awareness Month. His proclamation acknowledged that temporomandibular joint and muscle disorders (TMJDs) are "among the more painful, yet least understood disorders affecting people today." I even get a red wristband.

But, what can I do? Well, I have to relax and stop myself from clenching. I have to keep wearing my mouthguard and take ibuprofen, if necessary. I shouldn't open my mouth too widely and do jaw exercises. And I have to eat soft foods. What am I, 60?!?!?

Update:
From http://drmarcbenhuri.net/neuromuscular_and_tmj_relief.html?lid=104457023&keyphrase=tmj+specialist+new+york+ny&provider=google:
Most symptoms of TMJ occur in the facial area, but they can also be associated with other health problems. These symptoms include:
- Vertigo
- Ringing sound in ears
- Migraine headaches
- Pain in shoulder, back, neck, or behind the eyes
- Problems with head posture

OMG! I suffer from all of these symptoms!

77 Days towards Decades of Wreckage

While I eagerly await the results of today's election, the current president still has 77 days to enact disastrous policies that benefit his cronies. It will take decades to identify and dismantle all the crap that he is pushing through. As if he hasn't done enough damage.

- Civil Liberties
- Environment
- Abortion rights
- Taxes

Vote!

My vote was cast in October and I am so excited to see what happens today. If you haven't voted yet, make sure you vote today.

Fitflops for Winter!

So, back in the summer when I wore my fitflops everyday, I sent an email to my beloved fitflops asking them, "What will I wear in the winter? Can you make an UGGs fitflop?" They said to check back in November and...

Here it is! The fitflop billow! I know, they are ugly like my UGGs but, if they give me the same amazing arch support as a fitflop with the warmth of a shearling UGG, I'm so ordering 1 in every color. I do wish they were higher like a boot but I can wear my leg warmers over them. They don't ship until 12/5 so I'll let you know how they turn out next month.
