Permanent Eyeliner
So back in my entry "Lazy and Vain", I pondered permanent make-up. I'm terrible at putting on eyeliner - it is such a chore and takes so much time. I really liked the idea of just waking up and having the eyeliner on and all I have to do is the concealer, powder, mascara, brow, and cheeks. I'm also a bit addicted to tattoos.
After a busy day at work, I headed to Dr. Dormer's MediSpa which is interestingly close to Dr. Day's office. Guess those Upper East Side people need a lot of work! I met Christine (who's a make-up artist, been doing this for 20 years and teaches permanent make-up) who went over all the details and we got started. She numbed my eyes (which is a luxury in tattoo world but normal for permanent make-up) and did a nice, natural line along my upper lash line with dark brown (I only did upper). I really liked the dark brown because it won't fade into blue like the black ink might and it's not as harsh as black. Since I've had quite a few tattoos, I knew my skin would take it well and I wouldn't be so freaked out about the buzzing. We chatted and then she was done. We scheduled my touch-up (price included with the initial!) for a month later.
I'm a bit swollen so I'll take a picture for you later. I'm not in any pain and it should be totally healed in about 2 weeks.

Lazy and Vain
I think my MD had it done - her eyeliner looks the same all the time. So did Dr. Day. I might have it done by the woman who did Dr. Day or another woman recommended by Dana. I have a consultation next week. I'll let you know how it goes. I was going to save it for next year as part of my annual tattoo ritual but I'm a bit fixated on this idea.

M
In the middle of summer, in the middle of the day, in the middle of a thousand people out for lunch, I travel in midtown to get the middle letter of the alphabet, my M.M is my center, the heart of me. A reminder to strive for balance, to not be pulled in one extreme or another. It is also water, to cool, calm and soothe the fire that sometimes rages in my soul. To flow with grace wherever the currents lead.
I was worried about having it on my wrist but it really looks like I just drew on myself. Take that Corporate!
8/1: Yesterday my admin said it looked like "MP." Last night, L said it looked like "if" and M said it looked like a lighter for a grill. It's funny to hear everyone's interpretation of it. This morning, mom was like, "is that a tattoo??!?!!" Um, no.
Note: I do not recommend Red Rocket Tattoo. Sure, they have convenient hours but they are rude. For large pieces, I love Emma Porcupine. For everything else, I'd go to NY Adorned. A warning about NY Adorned. They have unbelievable jewelry - watch your Amex.
